Don Letts teamed up with Turtle Bay back in 2017 to produce four podcast episodes, each one delving into different parts of the reggae world with exceptional insight, knowledge and experience. After ‘Reggae 45’ was chosen as one of The Sunday Times’ must listen to podcasts of the year, they joined forces again to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 73rd birthday in a one-off special with author and writer Chris Salewicz. Now with tens of thousands of streams under their belts, it’s time for more music and chat from the godfather of reggae and Britain’s favourite Caribbean food chain – ‘Reggae 45’ is back.

Going in at full pelt, the first episode will air on the 22nd June and will explore the music and history of Trojan Records. Celebrating a mammoth 50 years in the game this year, the current owners are addressing this monumental achievement in style, and with Don being the figurehead for the celebrations it was only fitting that he and Turtle Bay got involved in the action by producing an hour-long podcast dedicated to their influential, timeless sound that has changed and affected lives on a global scale. Founded in 1968, the imprint specialises in reggae, ska, rocksteady and everything in between, and has played the host to some of the biggest-selling artists and records in their field: Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, The Pioneers, Tony Tribe, Desmond Dekker and countless more are amongst the names.

Don Letts has been heavily involved in popular culture since the 70s. The Grammy award-winning Director, DJ, presenter and all-round musical magician has been part of the hub and pushing boundaries for decades, making him an oracle on how music and culture can influence generations. His experience puts him in a unique position to flex his Trojan muscle and explore his love for the timeless music that he holds close.

Matching up an incredible occasion with the voice of BBC 6’s Culture Clash radio show was only ever going to have one outcome. Tried and tested, each podcast offers incredibly educated story-telling and allows a sense of discovery through the eyes and ears of a man that has been there, done it and got the t-shirt. This marks the start of another series of ‘Reggae 45’ podcasts, so strap yourselves in for a journey through reggae history.
